As part of National Youth Violence Prevention Week (April 28 – May 2, 2025), community leaders across Buffalo came together to raise awareness and promote peace. A featured event this year included a toy gun exchange held near the Tops supermarket on Jefferson Avenue, organized by Pastor James Giles and other advocates. The initiative encouraged children to trade in toy guns for books and educational materials, reinforcing the message that non-violent play can help build a safer community.
This event is just one of several ways local leaders are working to reduce youth violence and support positive alternatives for Buffalo’s young people.
